THUD

THUD is a spoof of THX in the direct-to-video movie "Tiny Toon Adventures: How I Spent My Vacation". The in-movie sound system check parodies the Cimarron THX sound system promo. The logo starts by the sound of an orchestra warm-up with a conductor's hand and baton, then it suddenly goes right into a loud synthesized bang before fading into the THUD logo zooming in, followed by displaying "The audience is now deaf" with the announcer saying it. Its Deep Note is disjointed, while straight at the end, THX had a straight and rising Deep Note. The audience is usually blown away by the sound, as at the end, some of the audience has collapsed and out of their seats. Shirley refuses the "free snacks" that Fowlmouth brought her before she displays a grossed-out face. After that, at the start of the promo, Shirley and the rest of the audience (except for Fowlmouth) ducks under a seat with various head equipment (Gas mask, helmet, etc.).

Trivia[]

  • "The audience is now deaf" is a reference to the THX slogan "The audience is listening".
  • THUD is a division of Mucasfilm Ltd., a parody of THX's then-parent company Lucasfilm.
  • The original Cimarron THX sound check that the THUD sound check parodies was notorious for being so loud it could actually break a theater's speaker system, and was eventually recalled for that reason and replaced with a re-scored version.
