Sphinxy Sphinx with Gogo Dodo on the run from one of Silas's henchmen

Sphinxy Sphinx is a minor (and recurring) character in Tiny Toon Adventures. She is one of Gogo Dodo's friends who lives in Wackyland, and a student at Acme Looniversity. She was voiced by Susan Blu. In the reboot, she is voiced by Betsy Sodaro.

Appearances on the Show[]

Sphinxy Sphinx first appears in the Season 1 episode, Sawdust and Toonsil. She and her friends; a Dragon and a Pegasus, have been captured by Silas Wonder and his two minions. Gogo tries to rescue her, but they both end up getting captured, and because they have not been in Wackyland for some time, they begin to fade away. Buster, Babs, and Plucky sneak into the circus, as Plucky distracts Silas while Buster and Babs rescue Sphinxy, Gogo, and their friends, returning them to Wackyland while outracing Silas's engine. When they return to Wackyland, Sphinxy (as well as Gogo, Pegasus, and Dragon) regains her magical powers.

Sphinxy makes a brief cameo appearance in the episode, Washingtoon, where she witnesses Gogo's tooniness being taken away by the Adults Against Funny Cartoons Chairperson's Toon Logic Extractor machine.

Sphinxy makes another cameo appearance, along with Gogo, in the episode, Sports Shorts, during the The Undersea World of Fifi two-parter episode segment, in which they both host a cooking show, The Wackyland Kitchen, as they show the audience how to make an Ancient Greek dish recipe called, Brine Shrimp La Fume, which includes grapes, the Skunk Goddess's favorite delicacy.

Sphinxy makes yet another cameo appearance, this time in the How I Spent My Vacation film, during one of the musical numbers, she is seen among the students sitting at their desks in Acme Looniversity.

Sphinxy appears in the Night Ghoulery episode segment, Night of the Living Dull, where she and her friends, Gogo Dodo, Pen Pal, Private Eye, The Elephant (from the episode, Elephant Issues), and a plunger hide out in a haunted house to escape from dull people.

Next, Sphinxy appears in the Son of Mr. Popular's Rules of Cool episode segment, Grapefruit!, in which she is mistaken for a pet kitty by Elmyra like how it did to Fifi, and after she made several attempts to keep Sphinxy, Elmyra finally lures her into a game show trap with unanswerable riddles, which Sphinxy is unable to answer them, and as a punishment for her failure to answer all of the riddles, Elmyra hugs Sphinxy, and takes her home to her house, where she gives her a kitty bed to sleep in, and feeds her a bowl of milk. Realizing that she has had enough of Elmyra treating her like a cat, Sphinxy gets angry, lifts her stomach, strokes her left arm upward with her right hand, and confronts Elmyra, asking her why she is mistreating her badly just by making her pass off as a kitty. Elmyra, who is thinking Sphinxy's question is a riddle, gives Sphinxy the wrong answer to her question. In a blind rage, Sphinxy grabs Elmyra, and yells at her, stating that the right answer to her question is due to domestic pet abuse, and Elmyra has to get punished. She then swallows Elmyra up for answering her question incorrectly. Feeling full, Sphinxy leans herself against a giant pillow and relaxes in a sitting upright position, pats her protruding stomach, and takes a deep breath. She then tells the audience that she is enjoying the episode. Elmyra echoes inside Sphinxy's belly, to which Sphinxy then goes to sleep.

Then, in another appearance in still yet another episode, I Dream Of Sphinxy, Sphinxy is out in the deserts of Wackyland, as she digs a hole in the ground with a shovel until she discovers a magic lamp. Taking it up to the surface, she rubs the magic lamp, and releases a female Barbara Eden-type human genie, who asks her what her three wishes are. But before Sphinxy will begin her three wishes, the Genie lays three tasks before her. Just then, Gogo arrives, and meets the Genie, whom Sphinxy is interacting with. Gogo asks the Genie if he will accompany Sphinxy on her journey to complete her three tasks, to which the Genie takes it as a "yes". And so, with that, she recites an incantation to send Gogo and Sphinxy to three different locations and find three different objects she wants -- for the first task, they will fetch her a pair of giant red medallions from a giant that lives in a castle in the clouds, a la the giant in the story of Jack and the Beanstalk; for the second task, they will fetch her a pinnigus rolling pin from a minotaur chef that hosts a cooking show within his lair at the labyrinth in the island of Crete from Greek Mythology; and for the third and final task, they will fetch her a silver rope from a dragon dentist that uses it as a dental floss in a cave within the countryside from the story of The Reluctant Dragon by Kenneth Grahame. With all three tasks complete, Sphinxy rubs the magic lamp, and the Genie appears before her and Gogo. The Genie then recites an incantation and fuses the giant medallions, the pinnigus rolling pin, and the silver rope together into a giant yo-yo, and then plays with it briefly. Sphinxy is ready for her three wishes. For her first wish, Sphinxy tells the Genie that she wishes she'll live in an Arabian palace, and rule on high as queen, with Gogo by her side as her right-hand man. At that, the Genie recites an incantation and sends Sphinxy and Gogo to an Arabian Palace, complete with human girl servants and harems. In the throne room, Sphinxy relaxes, as the servants fan her and feed her grapes, as Gogo is entertained by the dancers. From outside, we hear the villagers and citizens cheering off-camera, "Long live Queen Sphinxy! Long live Queen Sphinxy! Long live Queen Sphinxy!"

Physical Appearance[]

Sphinxy Sphinx looks like other, typical sphinxes in general, having a human head and a lion's body or more specifically in her case, a human girl's head and a lion cub's body with bird's wings on her back. She partly looks Egyptian with light tan skin for her face, has a black bob hairstyle, wears cerulean eye shadow with vertical white streaks (though that might be the shine on her eyelids), red lipstick, and has a black mark high on each cheek. She is short and has a svelte body covered mostly in tan brown fur while the front from her neck to her belly is a lighter shade of tan. Her tail is long and skinny with a black tuft at the tip. She wears a white headband with a sapphire gem in the front. Since she's female, she would be considered a gynosphinx.

Personality[]

Sphinxy Sphinx is initially despairing, doubtful, frustrated, homesick, and overall has a negative outlook when she, and her friends, are held captive once again. Gogo tries to give her courage when he talks about his plan for getting himself and the others free, but she remains unconvinced and pessimistic. However, after Buster, Babs, and Plucky return them to Wackyland, she perks up, becoming lively and content. Aside from that, she's also gentle, charming, nice, and sweet. Like her friends, she is fearful of dull people.

Quotes[]

  • [after eating Elmyra up for answering her question incorrectly, and then leaning herself against a giant pillow, and starts relaxing in a sitting upright position] "I'm so full." [pats her huge swollen belly] "I can't move at all." [takes a deep cleansing breath until her chest gets very big, and sighs with renewable pleasure, then to the audience] "I'm enjoying this episode."
  • [after being asked by Hamton about where Plucky is] "No, I haven't seen him."

Trivia[]

  • Of all of Gogo Dodo's friends, Sphinxy Sphinx is Gogo Dodo's best friend.
  • Sphinxy's nationality is that of Egyptian and Greek descent.
  • Sphinxy's first name is a portmanteau of "Sphinx" and "Trixie".
  • Sphinxy's backstory of how she came to live in Wackyland is revealed: she is the daughter of a male Egyptian sphinx from Egyptian Mythology and a female Greek sphinx from Greek Mythology. Born and raised in Greece/Egypt, her mother and father took good care of her, as she shares her experiences with them. One day, her parents both met their two different fates. Sphinxy's father is kidnapped and taken to Cairo by Egyptians, where he is used as a model for making a famous monument in Giza. However, during a dispute, they broke his nose, causing the sculptor to crack the nose off of the statue in the process, to which they killed him for good behavior. As for Sphinxy's mother, she is forced to guard the entrance to the city of Thebes by Greeks, where she asks anyone the famous riddle, and then fell off a cliff all the way down to her death when the Greek hero Oedipus solves the answer to the famous riddle. Horrified, with no parents to take care of her, Sphinxy runs away from home whilst escaping from her parents' fates. She found a nearby ship that took her to America. There, she came to Acme Acres, where she is welcomed by Buster and Babs, who both introduce her to all of their friends. They then lead Sphinxy to Wackyland, where she takes residence and meets Gogo for the first time, and thus starting a friendship with him. During the process, Sphinxy is enrolled in Acme Looniversity, and taken in by Bugs Bunny and the other Looney Tunes characters as their favorite top contract student. From one day after another (and so on and on and on), Sphinxy lived in Wackyland ever since.
