Allusions

  • The following TV shows are parodied:
    • The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show
    • Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color
    • Lassie
    • The Beverly Hillbillies
    • Hollywood Squares
    • The Outer Limits
    • Roseanne
    • The Cosby Show
    • The Home Shopping Network/QVV
  • In addition, there are ad parodies of Froot Loops and Bugle Boy Jeans.
  • The song that Babs sings at the beginning of Act 2 ("TV in the mornin', TV in the ev'nin'...") is a parody of the McGuire Sisters' song "Sugartime".
  • The Grossanne segment not only parodies Roseanne, but when Babs as Roseanne gets knocked out, she sings "O say can you see...", parodying Barr's infamous performance of the National Anthem at a baseball game.
  • In The Gogosby Show, Gogo gives his children and family pudding pops. This is a parody of Bill Cosby's role as spokesman for Jell-o Pudding Pops.
  • The title of Gogo's book, What? Me Worry? is also Alfred E. Neuman's catchphrase.

Trivia

  • In the sketch, Toonywood Squares, Blink Winkleman mentions that Montana Max is president of the Saddam Hussein fan club. Saddam Hussein would never be allowed to be mentioned on a children's cartoon nowadays.
  • In the sketch, Flassie, Monty's mouth doesn't move when he says, "'Over the river and through the woods, to Grandmother's house we go".
  • The host of Toonywood Squares, Blink Winkleman, is a reference to real-life game show host Wink Martindale.
